This new FORD – MIT project is based on a novel manufacturing and welding process called pulsed electromagnetic welding. This new technique could become one of the leading operations that are now being performed in the industrial field of high-energy-rate metalworking. The constructive use of magnetism is being applied in order to broaden the scope of manufacturing techniques, lower the costs, and shorten the lead time required in the production and fabrication of reliable metal parts.
